Hampton Bays UFSD
This is a new two-story Middle School with the capacity to hold 805 students; it is built with leading edge technology. The 137,731 sq. ft. building contains: classrooms, a cafeteria, gym, and library, and features a replica of the Hampton Bays lighthouse as its centerpiece. Critical to the passage of the bond vote, after two unsuccessful votes, was the requirement that the building meet national LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating criteria. Because of its aging infrastructure, the Hampton Bays community is sensitive about maintaining healthy school buildings and was quick to embrace the proactive LEED approach. LEED provides a framework for constructing buildings that will use power and electricity more efficiently thus lowering operating costs, raise productivity rates by improving indoor air quality and lighting, and reduce natural resource consumption impacts. Hampton Bays Middle School is the first public school building in New York State to receive LEED certification (Silver).
