470 Vanderbilt Avenue

470 Vanderbilt Avenue in Brooklyn is a 700,000 sq.ft. conversion of a 10-story, 100-year old factory into a multi-purpose building with offices and a private school. The completed project was built to house a school for autistic adults and children, and offices for the NYC Housing Authority and NYC Human Resources Administration. Construction on this Perkins Eastman-designed building began in May 2011 and was completed in December 2012. The project included: an all new electrical back bone and new HVAC systems on each floor, 11 new elevators, 2 new gang toilets on each floor, a rooftop playground for the school, a 130,000-gallon concrete retention tank in the cellar, a heavily renovated exterior skin, new windows and an entirely new roof.
